🔷️ Bulletproof Hips - Band Lateral Walks 🔷️⁣

Today we’re going to talk about band placement during the lateral walk. The lateral banded walk or the “crab” walk is a great way to strengthen the glute muscles 🍑 but at different levels based on whether you place the band around the knee, above the ankle or around the feet! ⁣

1️⃣ Band around knees = EASIEST⁣
2️⃣ Band around ankles = MEDIUM⁣
3️⃣ Band around feet = HARDEST⁣

Additionally, research shows that placing the band around the feet elicits greater glute vs TFL (tensor fasia latae) activation than placing them around the ankle or knees. This is important because the TFL is also an INTERNAL ROTATOR of the hip, and increased internal rotation, in combination with adduction plus decreased glute strength has been thought to be associated with an increased risk of lower body injury 🤕, specifically to the knee.⁣

This is thought to be because the band placement around the foot causes collapsing of the arches aka pronation of the foot. This then goes up the chain to cause the knees to collapse inwards and the hips to internally rotate thereby further forcing the glutes activate and EXTERNALLY ROTATE to make sure the knees remain aligned over the toes during the lateral walk. ⁣

Anecdotally, I’ve personally felt the peaches on fire 🔥🔥 more when I performed the lateral walk with the band placed over the feet.⁣

💎 Unilateral exercises are among my favorites to challenge each side of the body. Most people have one side that overcompensates for their weaker side. The key is to identify any asymmetries within the body and then address them. This will decrease risk of injuries, improve balance and overall body function. Don't forget to focus on those Glutes 🍑🍑! I noticed on the last few reps that I wanted to slightly arch my back. This would have been corrected right away if I had been one of my clients being trained by me 👀.

Sunday✨
There’s something so motivating about a Sunday for me! I don’t know what it is but it’s my day where I have jobs to do and I tick everything off of the list then I make myself some new goals for the following week to keep me working towards something!♥️
This past week has been a weird one for me! My headspace has been all over the place, my eating has been on track but I’ve felt so bloated and I just felt like it was a bit of a bad week overall🙃BUT here’s my goals for the upcoming week to make it a good one:
✨focus on the positives day in and day out! There’s always a positive to every situation and I need to start making it my aim to look for this!
✨film my monthly myprotein haul
✨get in a Monday workout! I find if I don’t miss a Monday I’m more motivated for the week💪🏼

More than just throwing weights around and repping shit out. With squats, RDL's, hip thrusts, and back extensions, glute activation is dependent on the individual’s focus of attention (mind muscle connection). It is actually quite difficult to not utilize quads in a squat when majority of the load is on your quadriceps during this movement. Another tip @cookiemonster4christ told me was compound movements before isolation exercises. I give credit where it’s due. Life is too short to be selfish. I’ve hired countless trainers and coaches not just to improve on my own physique but to learn. This creates a better ability to teach others and spread knowledge. Shoutout to @metalandiron for helping Rachel’s leg development, results of our dexa scan @privatehealth.fitness showed we have a 7lb difference in the leg department!! I thought I had big legs, apparently not.

As long as you are moving your body each day and being physical active your body will thank you in the future! ANYTHING is better then nothing!

I feel like everyone thinks in order to be healthy and fit you need to go to the gym 4-5 times per week but that is not the case at all! Being active can be in any form you want it to be! Find something you love to do which gets your body moving!!

TOP 5 TIPS FOR INCREASING GLUTE ACTIVATION IN THE HIPTHRUST. I did a big glute sesh this morn so thought I’d write a lil’ post on 5 tips to TRANSFORM your glute workouts when it comes to the hipthrust🍑🔥

Hip-thrusts are known as one of the best exercises for glute development. Buttttt as a quad dominant gal, I have had to do a lot of experimentation to ensure I’m maximally targeting my glutes
.
.
 1️⃣ PUSH THROUGH YOUR HEELS!
- Doing this instead of pushing through your toes or the balls of your feet shifts the muscle activation away from the quads and into the glutes (I always raise my toes off the floor to ensure I’m pushing with my heels)
2️⃣ FIND A FOOT STANCE THAT MAXIMIZES GLUTE ACTIVATION
- I find that having my feet too close to my glutes puts more emphasis on my quads, and if they’re too far away shifts the tension onto the hamstrings. Also, turning your feet outwards slightly can help to maximise glute activation
3️⃣ PUSH YOUR KNEES OUT
- Don’t let your knees cave in!! (This is better for your knees and it increases gluteal activation)
4️⃣ MAINTAIN A FORWARD EYE GAZE AND DON’T LET YOUR HEAD ROLL BACK
- This ensures you’re maintaining a posterior pelvic tilt and helps to prevent lumbar hyperextension (this can sometimes be injurious to the spine), WHILST placing tension on the glutes🍑
5️⃣ PAUSE AT THE TOP AND SQUEEEEZE YOUR GLUTES
- Pausing for 1 or more seconds at full extension ensures you’re focusing on mind-muscle connection, increases time under tension and makes you prioritise form, control and tempo so that you’re maximally targeting your glutes
6️⃣ FIND A SUITABLE BENCH OR BOX HEIGHT
- I used to do hip thrusts on a flat bench but then I would find it extremely difficult to thrust up for the first rep; and I would strain my lower back to get my shoulder blades into the correct position on the bench. Also I didn’t get anywhere near as much glute activation. I recommend experimenting with different heights to find one that allows you to feel the best activation in the glutes. For me, this is the height of a reebok deck or a green plyo box

When building an attractive physique, alot of skinnier guys think they need to constantly train abs, arms, chest/shoulders.

Heres 3 reasons why you should implement leg training into your routine.

1. Training legs will enhance your whole body because they are such a big muscle group, making you grow in other areas.

2. Hamstring dominant exericses,( the exericse in this video) will improve posture, helping you stand up straighter with more confidence
3. If done right , alot of leg exericses can provide a very effective lower ab workout, from just stabilisation alone 👌

On this exericse in particular I like to really load the hamstrings, keep the core tight throughout and squeeze my bum at the top.
